In making this portfolio I open with my project ‘Dragon’ which is close to my heart
as it is my first real exploration and self-taught 3d project. Dragon is a complex project currently
‘underway’, the character borne and evolving from my own imagination. Dragon is my current "Lycée" project
whereby my professor asked students to create their projects with a rapport between ‘Real and
Virtual’.
I began with a simple cube in Blender. Initially, I thought it was impractical to create characters, but after a few attempts and using reference images, I started to grasp the concept.
Using the anatomy of a real human body helped me establish a baseline for any character. These types of references are amazing!
Simple forms is crucial in this step; otherwise, adding too many loop cuts will negatively impact your character modeling in the future.
Using a reference of a dragon, I began to form the eyes more distinctly and added a tail as well!
While adding dragon ears and further refining the model's blockout, I found motivation in adding more details to it.
The body was still looking squared, so I smoothed the model out using the smooth tool in edit mode while still using flat shading.
Duplicating a face to add horns, then extruding and smoothing them while applying shading.
Adjusting the body with smooth shading is simpler because it helps identify any problems, which is extremely useful.
.
I crafted straightforward wings by duplicating a face from the character and shaping them based on my reference. While these wings are only basic outlines, they effectively establish the structure.
